Free South Dakota Parole Search (Find Anyone’s Details)

Free South Dakota Parolee Lookup
Find out if someone you know or love was released from prison on parole in South Dakota, free of charge.

Perform a free South Dakota parole search today. State agencies enable citizens to see who was released recently, find their parole officer and even check hearing dates for those who may be released soon.

Parole allows incarcerated individuals to serve their remaining prison sentences in the community while supervised by a parole officer. In other cases, when individuals have committed less severe offenses, they can be given a probation period under the watchful eye of a probation officer instead of proper jail time.

Interested parties can find complete details and instructions in this resource on how to conduct a parole search in South Dakota, as well as a probationer lookup, without any fees.

How To Conduct a Free South Dakota Parole Search (Look Up Anybody)

One of the best ways to find out if someone is on parole in South Dakota is through the Department of Correction’s (SDDOC) free Offender Locator Online Search Tool.1

This tool is typically used to find state prisoners; however, it also provides details on those who’ve been released from a South Dakota state penitentiary on parole. The SDDOC Offender Locator can be used to search not just currently incarcerated inmates but those released on parole as well.

Record seekers can search parolees by their full name, Department of Correction assigned ID number, or date of birth. The search will show the offender’s basic information as well as current custodial status. In case the person has not yet been released, the search will show a projected parole release date.

In addition to that, citizens can also contact the department directly for parolee information using the following credentials:

South Dakota Department of Corrections
3200 E. Highway 34, c/o 500 E. Capitol Ave.
Pierre South Dakota 57501

Phone: 605-773-3478
Fax: 605-773-6810

The department can provide parolee information, free of cost, upon in-person visit or through phone call. The South Dakota Department of Corrections office is open from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and is closed during weekends and public holidays.

Another way of obtaining parolee information is through the South Dakota Statewide Automated Victim Information & Notification (SAVIN). SAVIN is a 24/7 free-of-cost service created by the South Dakota state government where citizens, once registered, can get notifications about the custodial status of offenders whenever it changes.

SAVIN was primarily created to help crime victims keep track of their offenders and to notify them whenever the court changes their status or when they are released from prison. The service also has its own offender locator which can be used to conduct a South Dakota parole lookup.2

Check Who Has Violated Parole or Is on the Run in South Dakota

The South Dakota Department of Corrections (SDDOC) also maintains a list of parole absconders which can be searched to find individuals who have violated the terms of their release. This list is updated regularly and contains information such as the absconder’s full name, SDDOC ID number, parole agent, and date of the warrant.3

To conduct a search for parolees on the run in South Dakota, the DOC’s Most Wanted Escapees & Walkaways list can be searched.4 This list contains mugshots along with details of all escapees in the state of South Dakota. Upon clicking the escapee’s name, their physical description along with criminal history will also be revealed which can be downloaded in PDF form.

How To Look Up Inmates in a South Dakota State Prison

As referenced earlier, the same online offender search tool provided by the South Dakota Department of Corrections (SDDOC) can be used to find those currently imprisoned in a state facility.

ID numbers assigned by the department or full names of prisoners can be used to search them. The tool is maintained regularly and has the most up-to-date information obtained from the South Dakota judicial courts.

The SDDOC Offender Locator shows the prisoner’s full name in the search results along with their custodial status, projected release date, and the facility where they are currently being held. As another option residents can also choose to contact the SDDOC directly at:

South Dakota Department of Corrections
3200 E. Highway 34, c/o 500 E. Capitol Ave.
Pierre South Dakota 57501

Phone: 605-773-3478
Fax: 605-773-6810

Calling the department at the above-mentioned phone number can help residents obtain information about inmates.

Family members or friends can also contact loved ones in the state prisons of South Dakota through phone calls or mail. Some facilities in South Dakota also provide the service of electronic mail and video calls.

It is important to note that as per the policy of the South Dakota Department of Corrections, prisoners can make calls but not receive them unless it is an emergency. Calls are made through the tablets provided to the inmates and can be debited (in which the fee is cut from the inmate’s debit phone account) or collected (in which the fee is cut from the receiver’s account).

For visitations, the SDDOC has a strict policy.5 To visit an inmate in the state prison of South Dakota, the visitor must schedule the visit no less than 3 days before the desired date of the visit. Furthermore the visitor must be present on the inmate’s approved list of visitors.

To send money to state prisoners in South Dakota, the Department of Corrections suggests using the services of JailATM through a US money order or cashier’s cheque.

How To Determine Who Is on Probation in South Dakota for Free

Parole gives incarcerated individuals a chance to serve their sentences outside of detention centers under the watch of parole officers. However in cases where the offender has committed less severe offenses, they may be given probation (also under the supervision of a probation officer) in place of full prison time.

South Dakota’s Circuit Court Services handle probation matters in the state and can be contacted to find out details of probationers.

The Court Services division provides a court locator feature where citizens may look up the applicable court near them, and then either visit the courthouse in person or use their online services to look up probation information.8
